The Coffee Is Life

for a couple of weeks now every time i popped into a starbucks to order my grande non-fat, no-whip mocha, i was presented with the same refrain:

"would you like to make it a peppermint mocha?"

i would kindly reply, "not until after thanksgiving, thank you."

call me a traditionalist, i don't care.... but the peppermint mocha should not be broken out until after thanksgiving.

of course, this speaks to the larger problem of our commercialism-obsessed society. i think christmas decorations come out in stores now after the fourth of july, yes?

well...i know they're out by halloween.

now, the birth of the baby jesus doesn't give me a warm fuzzy inside. not a believer... i prefer my santa claus and frosty the snowman.

give me burl ives over 'away in a manger' anyday.

but the peppermint mocha comes after the slaughter of the innocents (i.e. thanksgiving).

this morning came after thanksgiving.

"can i get a grande, non-fat, no-whip, peppermint mocha, please?"

mmmm.....

the season begins.
