GOP Update - or - Why I Love Them So

secrets & lies
the ny times is reporting that shortly after gonzo came to lead the justice department in february of 2005, a secret document was circulated that permitted "an expansive endorsement of the harshest interrogation techniques ever used by the central intelligence agency."

according the the times:

the new opinion...for the first time provided explicit authorization to barrage terror suspects with a combination of painful physical and psychological tactics, including head-slapping, simulated drowning and frigid temperatures.

...

the classified opinions, never previously disclosed, are a hidden legacy of president bush’s second term and mr. gonzales’s tenure at the justice department, where he moved quickly to align it with the white house after a 2004 rebellion by staff lawyers that had thrown policies on surveillance and detention into turmoil.

that W is a real fucker....

this one will have legs, my friends. mark my words.

happy feet
senator larry "wide stance" craig (r-idaho) was once again denied pleasure today. a minnesota jugde denied craig's request that his guilty plea be withdrawn. for those of you who may not remember (but really, how could you not?), craig had plead guilty to a misdemeanor charge of disorderly conduct as a result of his tap, tap, tapping in a minneapolis airport mensroom.

he's such a naughty, nasty, dirty, little boy.......

hennepin county district judge charles porter ruled that the guilty plea was entered "accurately, voluntarily and intelligently." i.e. too little, too late.

from cnn:

in a sharply worded, 27-page order, the judge found the idaho republican had freely given his plea after extensive discussions with prosecutors and after waiving his right to an attorney.

"The defendant, a career politician with a college education, is of at least above-average intelligence," porter wrote. "he knew what he was saying, reading and signing."

back to his beard in idaho, i guess.....

on a side note: congressional republicans canceled a press conference they had planned for today because they knew every question would concern craig.

you can run..... but you can't hide.

oh, snap! update: just read that larry craig has vowed to serve out his current term in the senate and not resign. good, good, good.... stay in the senate. stay in the news. make the GOP squirm.

craig is the best thing to happen to the republicans since jim jeffords!

domenici's degeneration
the AP is reporting that senator domenici intends to announce that he suffers from "frontotemporal lobar degeneration, a progressive disease that in some forms can cause dysfunction in the parts of the brain important for organization, decision-making and control of mood and behavior."

in domenici's prepared statement, the senator will say:

the progress of this disease is apparently erratic and unpredictable. it may well be that seven years from now, it will be stable. on the other hand, it may also be that the disease will have incapacitated me. i am not willing to take a chance that the people who have so honored me with their trust for 40 years might not be served as well as they deserve in the united states senate.
of course, there's also that big cloud of controversy surrounding his involvement with the firing of prosecutor david iglesias.

but ya know..... this excuse flies too.

another side note: dems dream candidate to replace domenici in the senate? governor bill richardson. of course, his camp says he's dedicated to winning the white house. but - well - let's be honest with one another.

of course, i was somewhat predicting richardson would be hill's candidate for veep. especially since she and barack don't seem to get along.

then again....my ideal ticket: clinton/obama 2008.

i'm just saying.....

anyway - keep up the good work, republicans. you're making 2008 look all shiny and bright for the dems.

My Boyfriend's Back

guess who returned to capitol hill today for the first time since playing footsies in a minneapolis airport mensroom?

the only thing ole happy feet craig would say as he entered the senate chamber for a vote was "doing well. doing well."

the republicans must be so happy to have him back. i'm sure he was missed.

texans vs. panthers
the houston texans whooped up on carolina this weekend scoring 31 unanswered points after being down 14-0 early in the first quarter. final score: 34-21, houston.

i may be ready to jump on the possible playoff bandwagon. hell....i even read it on foxsports.com yesterday.

peter king of si.com named kubiak coach of the week and named houston one of his "fine fifteen."

matt schaub...as it turns out....has been a lifesaver. his poise and playmaking ability is just what the texans needed. and i don't know where the powerhouse defense has come from.... but mario has come into his own and 20-year old okoye not only smacked down his first nfl sack on sunday, but also got his second.
(by the way....check out the pick of the old number 8 shaking hands with the new number 8. my david is so cute..... i don't care how much he sucks. well, ummm.... you know what i mean.)

this is the first time houston has ever started a season 2-0. and they've never won three in a row. well....thank god we're only facing indianapolis next week.

of course...the last team to beat the colts? you got it....houston. 27-24 back in december.

make me proud, boys.

The Gift That Keeps on Giving

oh, larry craig.... where have you been all my life?

our favorite closet case and republican destructive machine, senator craig (r-idaho) has not disappointed me once in eight days. the boy is back and he's ready for a fight.

much to the dismay of the GOP in congress (and a very befuddled mitch mcconnell), craig has made it clear that he just may not resign come september 30th.

now....i blame myself for not catching this, but craig did say it was his "intent" to resign at month's end. not that he would resign or that he is resigning....but that he intends to resign.

i guess it depends on what your definition of is is.....

it's kinda brilliant, really.... and it explains why he didn't immediately step down. and apparently, all of this has been egged on by ole rascally rabbit himself - arlen specter of pennsylvania. he went on the sunday talk shows and told craig he should fight for his job.

howard fineman has an interesting theory that this is specter's payback to the GOP brass for threatening his leadership position on the judiciary committee if he didn't play ball with all of their court nominees. i do love it when the repubs stick it to each other.

shit....the dems really just need to sit back and enjoy the show for the time being.

all of this, of course, depends on whether or not craig can get his guilty plea overturned in minnesota. and whether or not he can survive an embarrassing hearing in front of the senate's ethics committee.

whatever it is....i'm sure the republicans love having ole twinkle toes tap around the capitol building every day.

i wonder if they scatter when he enters the washroom.....?

GOP curse?
has anyone noticed what has happened in minneapolis lately? the republicans announce they're holding their national convention there in 2008. they will crown their nominee for the next president of the united states in minneapolis.

then the bridge collapses.....

then twinkle toes craig taps his way into infamy in the minneapolis-st. paul airport mensroom.

i think maybe the republicans are cursed.......

and just this morning.....representative paul gillmor (republican of ohio) was found dead in his d.c. apartment.

what is going on with the republican party?!?!

ya know, ole mitt "flip-flop" romney....i bet those days as a democratic governor of massachusetts are suddenly looking awfully sweet. are you sure you don't want to change your stance on reproductive rights just one more time......?

before it's too late.......

Mitt's Latest Flip

well.....ole "i'll say whatever you need me to say to get your vote" romney has done it again. in the aftermath of twinkle toe craig's misconduct in the minneapolis airport men's room, romney has lashed out at the idaho senator.

senator larry craig, who was working with mitt on his campaign, elected to drop out of the romney camp so as not to distract.

so...... that was nice of him. i mean - we'd hate to have him come up in the romney campaign, right?

but wait...that didn't stop mitt from bringing him up anyway:

"it reminds us that people who are elected to public office continue to disappoint," mitty said on cnbc. "and they somehow think that if they vote the right way on issues of significance or they can speak a good game that we'll just forgive and forget."

oh, you mean....the way you want everyone to forget that you ran as a democrat to get elected as governor of massachusetts?

or the way you want the republicans to forgive you for years of being a social progressive? forget the way you supported abortion rights?

you want everyone to forget and forgive all that... so you can now run as a republican for president of the united states?

is that what you mean by speaking a good game?

so tell me, mitt: who are you currently disappointing? the dems that voted you into office because you supported their views at the time it best benefited you? or the republicans that have to listen to you constantly flip-flop on every important issue you've run on so that you can now steal the GOP nomination from a true conservative?

and have you disappointed senator craig? a loyal campaigner who made a pro-romney video that has now been ripped off of youtube...? that dropped out of your campaign so as not to hurt your chances due to association? the man you have now vilified in the public's eyes?

i'm not defending senator craig.... i mean, the 'mo needs to own up to actions. remember that he was the one that said back in february of '99 that "clinton brought this nation to this point because of his own self-gratification, setting what was good for himself above what was good for the nation." (glass houses.......)

but mitt.... seriously?

meet the press quote of the week
way over due, i know.... and i apologize, my lovelies. this week's quote comes from thomas ricks of the washington post:

"iraq, i think, is going to be much more difficult for this country than the vietnam war was...because we could walk away from vietnam." ricks goes on to say that leaving vietman was bad for the cambodians and others (obviously) but it didn't result in the predicted domino effect of communism taking over the world. but that we've "stepped into something" with iraq which is in a region with too high an economic influence on the world to just leave it.

i.e. i think we're in it for the long haul.....

GOP: Good Ole Penis

i don't know why the republican party is being so kind to me as of late... but it's like everyday is my birthday.

now....let me begin by saying i don't want to imply that senator larry craig (republican of idaho) is a fag..... but i am saying he does love the cock.

hey - i know a lot of "straight" men who have sex with men. does one man's love for another man's penis make him gay? ummmm...... hmm.

revelations of an arrest back in june have surfaced concerning senator craig and alleged "lewd conduct" that took place in a minneapolis-st. paul airport men's room. earlier this month craig pleaded guilty to fellatio, i mean, disorderly conduct and paid a $500 fine.

now, mr. heterosexual craig has since come out and said he regrets pleading guilty to the charge and it's all been a big misunderstanding. "i am not gay" insists ole larry. sure, i mean, you tap your foot in your stall. tap, tap, tap until you play footsies with the man in the next stall. you rub your fingers along the bottom of the stall the way you do any ole gloryhole in any ole bookstore that simply says: "please slide your dick through.... i'm gaggin' for it!"

but he was misunderstood. a big case of "he said/he said" says the craig camp. how fabulous is that quote?

of course, nevermind the gay blogger who swears he had sex with craig back in october of 2006. and forget about the allegations of sexual misconduct in a congressional page scandal back in 1982 that made craig "hot as hell." no, wait. i'm sorry - he said "mad as hell" back in '82. "mad as hell."

it's all just so delicious, isn't it? all these holier-than-thou republican assholes who initiate pro-family, pro-values, anti-gay legislation and run as pillars of society and then get caught with their dicks in their hands. or little boy dicks in their hands.

glenn murphy jr., bob allen, mark foley, david vitters (okay - hooker titties, granted, but still).

everyday you have to wonder which anti-gay legislator will be pulling down a young man's pants next.

for a full story on senator craig plus a lot of juicy details containing his suspicious past, see the following story from the idaho statesman:

what can i say? we're here... we're queer. and apparently a lot of us are republicans.

go fig.
